Ramblings about jazz
Undercurrent is the result of a half decade long love affair with jazz. While it’s only become somewhat of an obsession in the past few years, jazz has played an important role in my life for many years. From discovering canonical classics early on, to providing the soundtrack to some of my very favourite films.
That changed in 2020 when the COVID-19 lockdowns afforded me the time to explore different types of music. Although daily life was cursed by a mind-numbing daily routine, music provided an outlet to explore something different.
That era of toe-dipping curiosity became full blown ardour, and today jazz music makes up almost everything I listen to. I’m a keen reader of jazz books, and experiencing live shows. If it’s got to do with jazz, count me in.
Undercurrent is a way for me to continue learning more, and in turn, hopefully encourage others to give jazz a go. I plan to weave many of my other interests into the posts also, from books to film, and menswear to travel. I hope there’s something here for everyone.
I’d planned to keep this short and succinct, but I can’t help but ramble. As it says on the tin, or in this case, the heading. I’ll leave you then with a few short personal details that I probably should have started with. My name is Joel Condemi, I live in Melbourne and I work in Marketing and Communications. Let’s leave it at that for now.
