Great recap! The biggest thing that stood out to me was the 24 hour bookshop. I wish there were things like this in the states (at least where I live). Even a 24 hour library would be nice. We're sorely lacking third spaces in the US -- an unfortunately symptom of an individualistic and profit-driven society. Anywho, enjoyed the read!!

Thanks, Matt! Totally agree about the bookstore. Here in Australia we’re a bit the same with a lack of third spaces, and a late night spot would be a dream. I think that’s why I love travelling to countries like Japan and Taiwan where there are these options. Hopefully one day things might change!

Very cool trip Joel! Definitely need to make my way to Taipei soon. Millennium Mambo is such a beautiful film I think you’ll love it. Check out Rebels of the Neon God for more Taipei cinema if you haven’t seen it already. Cheers!

Thanks, Shann! I’m glad to hear that, it’s been on my list for ages so I’m excited to finally watch it. Rebels of the Neon God might be an even bigger blind spot as I love Tsai-Ming Liang. Will correct that ASAP. Thanks for the suggestions!

low this round-up Joel! some real gems you found — I love how some of the best spots are really tucked away sometimes just up an inconspicuous stairway. give a shout next time you’re in taiwan, would be fun to coordinate since I’m often there and into exactly the same kinds of exploring 📮
